Hi

I contacted RBS this morning. As I contacted the Financial Ombudsman, they are awaiting a decision on this. I did contact the FOS to see if they are aware of the outcome of the case and would this affect the final decision. The FOS said that they do look at this.

So frustrating so I just need to wait. Even though I have rejected the FOS initial decision to offset

It sounds like positive news for everyone involved in the PPI/RBS situation.

I think it will take time for a decision to be made from RBS on this and if there is any other possible recourse to challenge this from their perspective.

If they decide to pay out now then it will come in handy for everyone especially at this time of year.

I cant see them rushing to pay out Mr Tannock. I feel their legal team will fight this all the way any way they can, and i dont mean to sound negative. The court case was a great and positive ruling, however the only way i can see them paying out is if the figures add up, ie if it is cheaper to pay people off as opposed to what they will pay to fight it. From the previous cases looks like they dont understand the word no, you are wrong.

I think it's entirely possible that RBS might choose to stop fighting this.

There's the legal and management costs involved. Reputational risk. Potentially, there may be a dialogue with their regulator going on behind the scenes as well. The regulator often takes an interest when a bank goes out on a limb and deals with something differently to the rest of the industry.

The sum of money involved is obviously huge. But when you've already paid out (or set aside) six billion pounds for PPI claims, maybe it doesn't seem like quite such a lot?

We'll have to wait and see of course.
